We can provide a variety of services to support the design, development and evaluation (or validation) of surgical simulations.

This includes:

  • Surgical task analysis

  • Simulation experience design

  • Designing models for objective measurement of surgical tasks in simulation

  • Quality assurance reviews (and/or agile product reviews) for simulations in development

  • Advice and guidance on data models for surgical simulation

  • Educational guidance for the implementation and design of the education programmes to support simulation for education and training

  • Project management of simulation design/ developer vendors on behalf of funding bodies

Types of surgical simulation

Cognitive task training

The development of training for the development of surgical knowledge i.e. the surgical workflow, instruments, anatomy, surgical risks / errors etc.

Skills-based training

Simulations to develop bimanual dexterity skills and the acquisition of surgical skills for specific tasks including haptic manipulation

IPE Team-based training

The development of simulation including the surgical team e.g. first assist, surgical nurse, scrub tech, anaesthetist etc.
